my bloog: here we go

This is the beginning of a sometimes serious and sometimes silly collection of thoughts. There will be pieces I have written over the past few years (including some in answer to students’ requests for information about being an information designer). There will be recent examples of what I have done or am working on, and work by other people that I admire.

And there will be blue things.

My family and friends know that I have an obsession with all things blue. I know that blue has a couple of meanings; but don’t worry—I like the color, it’s as simple as that. And it has been since I was 17, in England. For my birthday, my mother wanted to give me a tailored jacket, and she said I could have any color and any style. It was beautiful blue jacket…and now, 50 years later, I have a whole closet of blue clothes. It’s not as bad as you might think—there are some yellow pieces and some green, but no other colors (well, there are a few white shirts, but absolutely no black, brown, tan, red, orange, purple, pink, olive.) Buying is easy: everything comes in blue. Dressing is easy: I have very few decisions to make.

Shoes have been a little harder to find. But now that Nike lets you customize some of their sneakers, I can just choose all the shades of blue they offer.
